Happy holidays! As the end of the year draws near, many people will get struck with the "holiday blues." I have had these feelings before in years past. Well, I would like to offer you a special as a way of warding off the holiday blues. Anyone in San Luis Obispo needing counseling services may receive their first 10 sessions for only $20 per session. However, this offer will expire on December 31, 2012, so please contact me today to schedule an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you and hope that everyone has a very special holiday season.
I will be on vacation all of August 2012, taking a much needed break and traveling to Italy. However, when I return, I would like to offer a promotion to new clients because of my new office location in the Castro District (4257 18th St., San Francisco, CA 94114). The first three new clients to sign up for counseling or coaching services in September at either of my office locations in Downtown San Luis Obispo or in the Castro District in San Francisco will receive their first six sessions for $60. Please mention this promotion when contacting me and I wish you all well.
I have learned that the therapist from whom I am subletting space will be moving at the end of this month. Therefore, I have had to find a new office location. My new office will be located in the Castro District and, as of July 1, 2012, will be:
4257 18th Street
San Francisco, CA 94114
_Some of you have asked me for some direction or suggestions on what you can do to identify areas in your lives where you may need help. So, I would like to share this questionnaire that I give to my coaching clients to help them start thinking about areas of their lives that need improvement. Low scores (or a high score on "Guilt") indicate that you may want or need some improvement in that area of your life. I hope it helps! And, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Please rate your life in the following areas, where 0 is low and 10 is high.
I hope everyone is doing well after the holidays and is enjoying a great new year! I apologize for not posting anything for the past month; with the holidays, a busy work schedule, and battling a sinus infection for over a month, I was unable to find some time to post. But, everything seems to be a bit calmer now, so I'm back to posting.
Today, because of the new year (and many people making some sort of new year resolutions) I wanted to discuss a little about how to write a plan of action in order to achieve your goals for this year. Research has shown that, of the people that create goals for themselves, over 75% of people that write down their goals and post it in a conspicuous place achieve their goals. However, less than 30% of people that DO NOT write down their goals actually achieve their goals. So, if you want to increase your chances of reaching your goals this year, write them down and create a plan of action for each of your goals. You can use the template that I have attached to this posting and tweak it however you see fit, OR you can create your own plan of action. Then, place your goals and plans of action on your mirror in your bathroom (or some other area where you can see it every day).
I hope you achieve all of your goals this year and you have the peace, happiness, and success you deserve!
Happy Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, I am sick and at home. But, I was looking through some of my old papers and presentations and came across this little nugget...
In 2004, I gave a cultural competency presentation to Kern County Department of Mental Health on specific issues relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals. I have included it below for you to download. I have also included it on my "Specialties" page (see tab above). It may need some updating, as I haven't given this presentation for quite a few years. But it contains some very useful information and I figured it may be helpful to someone. So enjoy!
Here is a great exercise to help you improve your life right now! Get out two sheets of paper and fold each one down the center, so that you have a right and left side. On the left side of the first page, write "Energy Drainers." Underneath this, write down all the things in your life that are currently draining you of your energy. Remember to be brutally honest here. On the right side, at the top, write "plan." Underneath this, and next to each of your energy drainers, write down what you want to do to eliminate or decrease the energy drainer. Make sure your plan is specific and measurable. For example, you can write "My kids" as one of your energy drainers, with a plan of "hire a babbysitter for three hours a week so I can spend some time with my partner/spouse."
Now, do the same thing on the second page for "Energy Gainers." When you are finished, start putting your plans into action! By doing this, you can improve your emotional health (by having something to look forward to), decrease your stress, and avoid burnout. This exercise should be both positive and fun, and should help you to recognize the improvements/desires/goals that you want to make in your life, and what to do about them. Enjoy!
Almost time for Thanksgiving. So, here is a special thanks to you! If you are one of the first three people to sign up for new coaching or counseling services before November 21, 2011, your first two 45-minute sessions will be $75 per session. Please call 1-800-252-7374 today to schedule your appointment!
